Secondary and matric exams will be prioritized for other board exams, Education Minister Federal Shafqat Mehmood confirmed Thursday.

In a series of tweets, the minister announced that the board exams in Pakistan would begin after June 23.

"The Provincial Minister of Education (IPEMC) Conference took place yesterday. It has been decided that the Board's examinations will start after June 23. The Intermediate and Matric examinations will start so that the results can come in before university admissions," Twitter wrote.

IPEMC members reject a proposal to promote Grade 9 and 11 students. They also gave their consent to hold the exams as scheduled for July.

Mehmood indicated that the government would prioritize Grade 12 and 10 exams followed by grades 11 and 9.
The day before, the minister had said the in-country exams would be held after June 23.

Mehmood, speaking on the Geo News program "Capital Talk", said the state of coronavirus was improving in the country due to vaccinations and other measures taken by the government.

Mehmood added that another NCOC meeting would decide on the third week of May whether the tests were postponed.

"So if the tests are done after June 23, they can continue in July and even August," the minister explained.

Speaking about the Cambridge exams, Mehmood said the O Level exams will now be held in the October and November cycles and the same will happen for the A and AS Level exams,

However, he said A2 students should appear in the exams right now, as postponing this could lead to a wasteful year.
